Born into the respected royal family of late Prince Fatoye Fakayode of Okesan Compound in Arandun (Irepodun Local Government), Comrade Bisi Fakayode was educated both in Kwara and in Akwa Ibom States. Worthy of particular mention is the fact that Comrade Fakayode served as the Kwara State Auditor of Nigeria Civil Service Union between 1986 and 1988. He later went on to become the State Chairman of the same Union and served meritoriously in that capacity between 1998 and 1993. He also served as the State Chairman of the nation’s umbrella Labour body – the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) between 1992 and 1998. IF-K: KWSG Pays N4.46B to Contractors   The Kwara State government says it has paid the sum of N4.46billion under the State Infrastructure Development Fund (IF-K) to contractors for work completed.  This was published in the December 2016-2017 edition of the IF-K inaugural management report.  The report noted that prior to the establishment of IF-K, the shortfall on 62 existing projects was N9.75billion out of which the state government had paid N4.46billion representing 43.4% of the N4.97billion verifiable debt to the contractors. It added that the balance of N516.6million will be paid in no time in order to bring the the projects to full payment.  The report further stated that the commitment of the State government under the leadership of Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed to pay the debt met the mandate for which the Fund was established, which was to pay pay off all existing debt on completion of work done. Just like many other people in this world, I also wait the entire year for my grand day, October 29; my birth day. This day has always attracted such enthusiasm in my life just because of you all. Your endless heart melting blessings and wishes make my entire life blossom and prosper in such a unique way that cannot be expressed in words. On 29 of October,  2018, I  reach the “milestone” of celebrating my 60th birthday.  A few who know that I am reaching that point in my life have asked me how I feel about that fact.  Obviously I have known it has been coming.  I am a person who, regardless of happenings around me, can be very sensitive to time, date and occurrence.  In such a time as this, the best I can describe my feelings are ones of reflection. BudgIT Ranks Kwara High In Salary Payment Kwara state has  been ranked high in a survey carried out by BudgIT for timely payment of salaries and pensions. BudgIT, a civic organization that applies technology to intersect citizen engagement with institutional improvement affirmed that the state government has no salary arrears despite the financial challenge in the country. BudgIT’s 2018 Sub National Salary survey indicated that Kwara state is not owing Midwives in State hospitals, secretariat workers and pensioners. BudgIT report shows the primary school teachers teachers four months salary as at September 24, 2018. Findings revealed that the four months outstanding salaries of teachers is within the responsibility of local government and the state government is working out modalities to help them clear it. Kwara Govt to Begin Rehabilitation of Eiyenkorin-Okolowo Road Today The Kwara State Government will today, Saturday, begin the rehabilitation of the Eiyenkorin-Okolowo portion of the Ilorin-Jebba Road. Kwara State Commissioner for Works and Transport, Alhaji Aro Yahaya, who announced this in a statement, said the state government decided to intervene on the federal facility in view of the hardship experienced by motorists and commuters between Eiyenkorin-Okolowo daily. The Commissioner added that heavy duty vehicles were also diverting to Ilorin metropolis roads in account of the poor state of the federal facility thus damaging inner city roads which were constructed for lighter vehicles. Alhaji Yahaya said the state government’s rehabilitation of Eiyenkorin-Okolowo is expected to be completed next Tuesday after which it will begin the repair of Ilorin township roads damaged by the traffic of trailers and tankers. FAAC: Kwara Releases October Allocation Figures   Kwara State Government is to receive N3.4 billion as allocation from the Federation Accounts Allocation Committee, FAAC, for the month October. The State Commissioner for Finance, Alhaji Demola Banu disclosed this in a statement released in Ilorin on Friday. The statement revealed that the State government got a total of N3,404,033,607.33 as allocation for October. Banu disclosed that the State government’s allocation was made up of statutory allocation of N2, 639, 202, 094.19, Value Added Tax of N735,699,362.29, exchange gain of N1,516,878.68, and Excess Bank Charges of N27,615,272.17 Also, he disclosed that the 16 local government councils in the State received a total of N2,504,576,236.69 as allocation for October. A breakdown of the allocation figures showed that the councils got a statutory allocation of N2,068, 120, 432.93, Value Added Tax of N417,241,175.57 and exchange gain of N1,000,484.31 and excess bank charges of N18,2

KWSG Repairs Ohan-Bailey FG Bridge, Commits to Complete Kishi-Kaiama Road   The Kwara State Government has completed the repair of Ohan-bailey Bridge in Moro Local Government Area of the state, which is a Federal Government facility. The state Commissioner for Works and Transport, Alhaji Aro Yahaya, disclosed this on Tuesday on a radio programme, "Ibi  abasede" in Ilorin .  He noted that the rehabilitation work was completed on Monday and the bridge was immediately opened up for road users.  It would be recalled that the state government commenced the repair after a fully loaded truck fell on the bridge at Alapa Area of Asa Local Government in September.  Aro added that the state government had on several occasions intervened on the repair of Ohan-bailey bridge and other federal government facilities in the state in order to ease movement for motorists. KWASU Ilesha Baruba: KWSG charges contractor on early completion The Kwara State Government has charged the contractor handling Ilesha- Baruba campus of Kwara State University to expedite effort in ensuring timely completion of the project. The State Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Science and Technology, Barrister Abdullahi Alikinla who gave the charge at Ilesha-Baruba when he inspected the project, stressed the need for the contractor to redouble the pace of work and deliver the project on schedule. Barrister Alikinla, who expressed displeasure over the low pace of work, pointed out that the pace was slow compared to Ekiti and Ilorin KWASU campuses which are also under construction. The Commissioner therefore, tasked the consultant and contractor to redouble their efforts by mobilising resources and workforce for timely completion of the project. KWASU Osi Campus Set for Completion Kwara State Government has assured that the ongoing construction of Osi campus of Kwara State University(KWASU) would be completed before the present administration leaves office. The state Commissioner for Tertiary Institutions, Science and Technology, Barrister Abdullahi Alikinla gave the assurance during the inspection of the project last Thursday. Some of the ongoing facilities inspected included students hostel, lecture hall, staff quarter, lecture theatres, college buildings A and B among others. KWASU School of Business and Governance Ready for Commissioning All is now set for the commissioning of Kwara State University(KWASU) School of Business and Governance, located in Ilorin. The Project consultant, Arc Jamiu Faworaja who conducted the State Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Barrister Abdullah Alikinla round the edifice, Thursday in Ilorin, said that the project is 90 per cent completed. The project consultant told the commissioner that the edifice contained  twelve classrooms, mini-lecture room, seminar room, library among others. He explained that outing work included mechanical and electrical fittings, furniture, landscaping and perimeter fencing were not captured in the earlier agreement.  He told newsmen that a report on perimeter fencing had been sent to the Governor for approval, assuring that  the fencing would be completed as soon as it is approved. Kwara SUBEB Debunks Claim of Politicizing New Teaching Jobs   Kwara State Universal Basic Education Board (KWSUBEB) has debunked an online publication that applicants for the 1850 new teaching jobs announced by the government were directed to secure endorsement from their Ward Chairmen. The SUBEB chairman, Alhaji Abdulkareem Lambe, in a statement released on Monday in Ilorin, said the ongoing recruitment was driven by  established need and will be based on merit rather than political patronage. He disclosed that the applicants were only required to submit their job applications to the office of the Local Government Education Secretary (SUBEB) in their respective local government councils and not ward chairpersons. Payment of LG Gratuity Not Political - Kwara Govt Yesterday’s payment of gratuity to one hundred Local Government pensioners, following approval by the Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed,  is an ongoing process and is not political. The Senior Special Assistant to Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed on Media and Communications, Dr Muyideen Akorede made this known while on a radio programme 'Kwara Today' on Thursday. He was responding to a question on the timing of the payment. Akorede noted that the payment of gratuity to LG pensioners, which resumed last month, further shows the commitment of Governor Ahmed to the welfare of retirees in the state. He noted that more arrears will be cleared as the federal allocation to the local government’s increase and more funds come into the state. Harmony Holdings Gets New GMD Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, has appointed Dr. Shehu Kuranga Mohammed as the new Group Managing Director (GMD) for Harmony Holding Limited (HHL).
