Kwara State Government yesterday in Ilorin disclosed that it had expended over N11billion on infrastructure across the state between December 2016 and December 2017. Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media and Communications, Dr Muideen Akorede, who briefed pressmen alongside commissioner for Information and communications, Alhaji Mohammed Ishiak Sabi, on the outcome of the state executive council meeting held on Wednesday, explained that the fund was expended under the government's special funding window tagged Kwara Infrastructure Development Fund (IF-K). Akorede who explained that the council received report on the state's  IGR reform under which IF-K got its funding between December 2016 and December 2017, said  N4.97bn was expended on existing projects while N6.07bn was spent on new projects. Gov. Ahmed inspects ongoing projects, assures on completion The Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed on Thursday continued his inspection tour of ongoing projects across the State. Governor Ahmed was at the site of the 17km Maigida-Arobadi road project in Moro local government area of the state where he was received by the State Commissioner for Works and Transport, Alhaji Aro Yahaya and the contractor in charge of the project.  The Commissioner disclosed that 7km of the road had so far been completed with asphalt overlay and that the asphalt overlay of another 5km will follow. He assured that the road project would be completed by October, 2018.  Governor Ahmed also inspected the ongoing construction of Alagbado Bridge in Ilorin East local government area, which is almost completed. Kwara State Government to Rebrand Kwara Hotel The Kwara State government has announced plans to redevelop, rebrand and reposition it's iconic Kwara Hotel into 3 and 4-star hotels under a Public-Private Partnership(PPP) arrangement. The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media and Communication, Dr Muyideen Akorede disclosed this at a press briefing on Thursday  at the Government house, Ilorin following the State Executive Council meeting. The meeting, which was chaired by Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed, noted that despite the huge potential of Kwara Hotel which opened in 1975, it was underperforming due to challenges regarding management and operations. The government said the reason for the rebranding is to revive and reposition the hotel, and make it profitable for the benefit of the government and the people of the State while sustaining a cultural brand for the state. Kwara Governor Swears in Special Advisers  Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed on Wednesday, swore in nine Special Advisers with a charge on them to synergize with members of the State Executive Council and establish good working relationship with other organs of government. Speaking at the ceremony, which held at the council chamber of the Government House, Ilorin, ahead of the State Executive Council Meeting, Alhaji Ahmed said the appointment of the advisers demonstrates his administration’s determination to put in place a stronger  machinery which will assist in meeting the aspirations  of the people. Her photograph of a female aircraft engineer taken at the International Aviation College, Ilorin, Kwara State won her the prize  Presenting the prize to Eyitayo on Monday in Abuja, the Director, UNESCO Regional Multi-sectoral Office, Ydo Yao commended her for putting her skill to action.  He urged youths across the globe to put their skills to action and be committed to whatever vocation they are engaged in. We appreciate the fact that the 2018 Appropriations Law which was passed by the National Assembly on May 16th, 2018 was signed by President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday, June 20th, 2018. 2. KWSG set to begin rehabilitation of Omu-Aran Township roads Indications had emerged that the Kwara State government is set to commence work on the rehabilitation of Omu-Aran Township roads in Irepodun LGA, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports. A combined team of officials and engineers from the State Ministry of Work and Transport and Kwara State Road Maintenance Agency (KWARMA) were in the community on Thursday to carry out markings and surveying of the roads. It would be recalled that the State Governor, Dr Abdulfatah Ahmed, had indicated the government's interest to rehabilitate the roads during the commissioning of a 2.4 kilometer road in the community some months ago. The said road, which was handled by Nigeria Army Engineers Corps, was initiated by Hon Funke Adedoyin, a member representing Isin, Ekiti, Irepodun and Oke-Ero Federal Constituency from the State. KWSG Releases N125m Subvention to Tertiary Institutions   The Kwara State government has released the sum of N125,395,252.96 as May 2018 subvention to all state-owned tertiary institutions. The State Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Barr. Abdullahi Alkinla disclosed this in a statement released on Thursday in Ilorin. Giving the breakdown, Alkinla said the College of Education, Oro received N33,706,598.99, College of Education, Ilorin got N53,173,085.77 while the College of Education (Technical), Lafiagi received N21,272,571.73. Others are College of Arabic and Islamic Legal Studies, Ilorin: N11, 949,031.50, College of Nursing and Midwifery, Ilorin: N2,171,454.33 and the College of Nursing and Midwifery, Oke-Ode: N3,122,510.64. PRESS STATEMENT ON SIGNING OF 2018 BUDGET The House of Representatives is appreciative of President Muhammadu Buhari in signing the 2018 Appropriation Bill into law and wish to make the following observations: 1. That the budget is usually a proposal by the Executive to the National Assembly, which the latter is given the constitutional power of appropriation to alter, make additions, costs or reduce as it may deem necessary. The Legislature is not expected to be a rubber-stamp by simply approving the Executive proposals and returning the budget to Mr. President. Therefore, the additions Mr. President complained of in his speech are justifiable. 2. We are on the same page with Mr. President in his desire to return our budget cycle to January-December. By the provisions of the Fiscal Responsibility Act, 2007, the budget estimates should be with the National Assembly around September of the year. Ilorin Flooding: Kwara Government Pledges Relief Measures The Kwara State government has urged residents to remain calm in the wake of the heavy rainfall which led to flooding in some parts of Ilorin, the state capital on Monday even as it pledged relief measures for victims. The state’s Commissioner for Environment, Mr Amos Justus, who spoke after inspecting areas affected by the flood in Ilorin on Tuesday,  assured residents of the governments’ commitment to finding a permanent solution to the incessant flooding. CNPP demands end to attacks against Saraki, others Congress of Nigeria’s Political Parties (CNPP) has called for an immediate end to what it described as orchestrated campaigns of calumny against Senate President Bukola Saraki and other perceived enemies of the Federal Government by its security and anti-crime agencies.
