SUBJECTING RAFIU IBRAHIM’S LIFE JOURNEY TO INSPECTION

***a man who sees losing because of family as victory

By Abdulganiyu Abdulqadir

I want to begin by congratulating the Distinguished Senator, Dr Rafiu Adebayo Ibrahim on the occasion of his birthday. His world overflows with possibilities. Friends, admirers and conspirators know you have the wisdom and maturity to spin political affairs and implement life transforming plans for your people. I’ve seen you do it many, many times: that first class stage performance. I will continue to watch in amazement to see what you will do next – and stand ready to help in any way. I wish you a prosperous birthday in good health and wealth.

Subjecting your life to inspection, you have on many occasions proven that when people are not convinced with our abilities, we should depress them with our achievements. Reason why not even your detractors could accuse you or attach your political recess to incompetence, failure(s) or unfulfilled promises. Your displayed maturity in victory and loss is admirable and an important lesson. Equally, how you have admittedly through actions proven that humanity and collective prosperity must be picked above selective interest is imitable.

Despite politics not being guided by any legitimate rule, you have always cared and pay close attention to details of history about you, you have lived today bearing in mind that future generations would not ask you the political party you belonged to, the ideology or sentiments you shared but what you did when you had opportunity. I am optimistic that history will be kind to you and remind others or expose them as frauds when they fail to handle today by compromising the future.

A remarkable lesson is also your indisputable position that one does not get angry with the people. It is interesting and applaudable how you have not been rocked with scandal or allegations upon your exit from office. Kwara South is indeed a blessed land and such an environment producing someone like you is applaudable, environment invested a lot in you and I am sure they are proud you gave back to them. Either way, both victory and loss call for reflections.

Your loyalty to your brother, friend, leader and mentor, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki remains unshakeable despite the political recess. Your type of General on the battlefield who shares in both victory and loss is uncommon. A fighter who jumps at the war front along his soldiers, not under a safe tent trying to figure out whether a speculative plan will work or fail while ordinary men who believe in a better tomorrow risk their lives.

Reminiscing on the days that preceded your 2019 ticket and the days I spent with you at the Police Headquarters during the eve of your elections in the hands of the detractors and tormentors who saw politics as a do or die affairs further convince me that you are a man who sees losing because of family as victory.

Your philanthropic gesture towards the people is unmatched and unqualifiable, you give what you can to those in dire need of it without thinking twice. Your empathy, understanding and emotions towards your people is one of the greatest attributes a human can have. Of course, the angels have made the world a beautiful place and you are just making a difference and discharging your duty as a man. You are a king who will get down from his horse to assist a stuck mule-driver and push and push until he gets out of the mood.

You do not do it to scorn the people, or those that would not do so, but just fulfilling your obligations as a man of the people.
Today is a significant day in your life, an inspection of your life comes with a lot of handy lessons and encouragement as your admirer, mentee and follower sir. May Allah bless your today and days to come.
