Governor Ahmed Commissions N6.5b Ilorin Metropolis Water Distribution Project

Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed has commissioned the Ilorin Metropolis Water Distribution Project as part of efforts to provide clean and affordable water to the citizenry.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony held at Agaka area of Ilorin on Thursday, the governor said the commissioning of the project was a celebration of coming to fruition of the project after a decade of relentless efforts by the State Government.

He added that with the completion of the secondary phase of the project, government has recorded significant milestones in its effort to ensure that every resident has access to water within a 500-meter radius. He added that the project will serve 48,000 homes within the metropolis.

On the funding of the project, Governor Ahmed noted that the Ilorin Water Distribution Network which was implemented at the cost of N6.5billion, was funded partly through the N17b bond, a commercial bank facility and the Kwara State Infrastructure Development Fund (IFK).

The Governor further disclosed that the project consists of 110km of new pipeline which is made up of 39.94km of Transition lines, 44.13km of Principal Distribution Pipeline, 11.57km of Secondary Distribution Pipeline and 15.18km of Tertiary Distribution Pipeline.

Others include 2 booster stations at Eastern and Western reservoirs, 10,000m3 concrete circular tank at Oloje and 570m3 elevation tank at Oja-Oba.

He added that the network is supplemented with standpipes at 130 locations across the Ilorin metropolis.

While restating his administration's determination to expand water supply to more homes in the metropolis and indeed across the state, Governor Ahmed disclosed that arrangements are at advanced stages to award the contract for 310km Tertiary Reticulation Network which will expand Water Supply coverage in Ilorin to 105,000 households.

FAAC: Kwara to Receive N3.2b as April Allocation as LGs Get N2.4b Kwara State Government has revealed its federal allocation figures for April 2019. In statement issued in Ilorin on Wednesday, the State Commissioner for Finance, Alhaji Demola Banu said the state government will receive N3,279,896,086.07 as federal allocation for April. The April allocation, according to Banu, comprises statutory allocation of N1,984,735,503.59, Value Added Tax (VAT) amounting to N865,451,596.07, exchange gain of N3,605,662.04, foreign exchange equalisation of N71,405,769.35, additional NNPC funds amounting to N54,568,854.62 as well as goods and valuable contribution of N300,128,700.40.
