KWSG Repairs Ohan-Bailey FG Bridge, Commits to Complete Kishi-Kaiama Road
The Kwara State Government has completed the repair of Ohan-bailey Bridge in Moro Local Government Area of the state, which is a Federal Government facility.
The state Commissioner for Works and Transport, Alhaji Aro Yahaya, disclosed this on Tuesday on a radio programme, "Ibi abasede" in Ilorin .
He noted that the rehabilitation work was completed on Monday and the bridge was immediately opened up for road users.
It would be recalled that the state government commenced the repair after a fully loaded truck fell on the bridge at Alapa Area of Asa Local Government in September.
Aro added that the state government had on several occasions intervened on the repair of Ohan-bailey bridge and other federal government facilities in the state in order to ease movement for motorists.
On the 64km Kaiama Kishi road project, which is also a FG facility, the Commissioner noted that construction work is still ongoing.
He said that the contractor was mobilized to site by the Kwara State Government in November 2014 with N500million. He added that in February 2018, the state got reimbursement from the FG totalled N613.7million which was transferred to the contractor to meet up with the original 30 per cent mobilization fee.
Aro disclosed that the project is at 17 completion, attributing the delay to scarcity of funds. He, however assured that work will not stop until the project is brought to completion.
He said the FG has given the State government the go ahead to continue with the project assuring that funds expended will be reimbursed once the certificate is submitted.
Furthermore, he noted that the contractor has agreed to surface dress and grade the road to 33km in order to create a conducive environment for the people plying the road.
Alhaji Aro Yahaya further disclosed that the contractors handling Moshe to Teshe, and Teshe to Kishi parts of the road have not been moblised to site. He assured that once the State government gets the reimbursement from the FG, the contractors will be mobilized to site.
He reiterated the commitment of the state government under the leadership of Governror Abdulfatah Ahmed to make roads across the state motorable as well as complete all ongoing projects before the expiration of his tenure.
