RAAMP: KWSG to Commence Construction of 387km Rural Roads, Agro-allied Cottage Industries

Kwara State government has disclosed that it would soon commence the construction of 387km rural roads across the state under the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP).

This was made known by the State Commissioner for Works and Transport, Alhaji Aro Yahaya while on a radio program "Ibi abase de" in Ilorin on Tuesday.

He added that aside the roads in the listed communities, Agro-allied cottage industries will also be constructed where farmers in the communities can take their produce after harvest to reduce post – harvest losses. He added that the industries will be based on the crop each community plants.

Aro noted that in the last three weeks, the ministry invited engineers who will be engaged to draw the road maps, the process which is said will end by Friday. He added that thereafter, contractors will be engaged.

He said while the construction is going on, selected community representatives will serve as monitoring teams to oversee the construction in order to promote community engagement in projects carried out by government.

On the roads damaged by erosion, the commissioner said the state government has commenced the repair as well as maintenance work on drainage channels across the State. He added that the rains had been the reason while the work has been slow.

He, therefore urged residents to desist from throwing refuse into the drainage systems when it rains or burn waste in them either.

Aro reiterated that the state government under the leadership of Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed is committed to ease the plight of road users in the state.
