We Are Using IGR Prudently-Gov. Ahmed Governor AbdulFatah Ahmed of Kwara State has disclosed that the state government is using the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) generated through collection of taxes, duties/levy and other revenue judiciously and prudently for benefit of the residents. Governor Ahmed speaking through his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Dr Muideen Akorede in a chat with newsmen in Ilorin during the weekend said the gross IGR of the state is N1.5billion monthly. The governor explained that the gross IGR includes revenue from hospitals, tertiary institutions like KWASU and Kwarapoly and other government agencies that usually retain their income for smooth running of their activities. He said revenue collected on behalf of such agencies are not part of distributable revenue because they will use it to run their organizations. Besides, the Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KW-IRS) will also deduct certain percentage as handling charges to care of their running cost and salaries. His words: "Aside from earmarking N500million to IFK monthly, the government also use the IGR to augment salary payment, if there is shortfall from revenue from federation account. This is one of the reasons we don't have non-payment of salary issue in Kwara state. He revealed that the state government has releases N13billion to contractors under IFK from 2016 till date. "Kwara state has turned to construction site due to IFK. Diamond Underpass bridge, dualisation of Sango to UITH Road, New State Secretariat, KWASU extension at Ilesa Baruba, Osi Ekiti and PG School, Ilorin, digitalisation/repositioning of state owned media houses and other road projects across the state are possible through IFK.". He reiterated. The governor therefore appealed to residents of the state to pay their tax as at when due, stressing that his administration will to implement people oriented programmes.
