Hon Tope Olayonu Danlad Raise A Motion On The Armed Robbery Attack

Today at the plenary I sited STANDING ORDER VIII, RULE 4 AND 7.
MATTER OF URGENT PUBLIC IMPORTANCE:

MOTION ON THE LOSS OF ABOUT THIRTY (30) LIVES AND FIFTY (50) PERSONS INJURED IN BANK ROBBERY IN OFFA, KWARA STATE ON THURSDAY, 5TH APRIL, 2018. ‘’NEED FOR URGENT INTERVENTION’’.

The House:
Notes that there was a deadly Armed Robbery attack in Offa, Kwara State on Thursday 5th April, 2018 where a gang of heavily Armed Robbers numbering about 30 in a convoy of about 10 vehicles invaded the town.
Aware that the robbers commenced their dastard action with the invasion of the Police Station in the town where about sixteen (16) Policemen were killed before descending on the citizens and banks, where innocent citizens including bankers were also killed with no visible restriction.
Concerned that the security system could be easily overwhelmed and personnel gruesomely killed in security facility, is an issue that calls for serious concern.
Also aware that the citizens have right to security and right to life as guaranteed in the Nigerian Constitution Section 33 (1) and this cannot be undermined.

After the Motion and serious debate  the House Resolves to:
i) Condemn the action of the robbers in its entirety.
ii) Commiserate with the people of Offa, Kwara State and the Nigerian Police on the loss of Human and material resources.
iii) Mandate the Nigerian Police to investigate and unravel the robbery in order to bring the culprits to book and prevent future occurrence.
iv) The Nigerian Police should look into the site and location of Police Stations all over Nigeria.
v) Urge the House to observe a minute silence for the repose of the departed souls and quick recovery of the injured.
vi) Mandate the House Committee on Police Affairs to investigate the matter and report back to the House in 2 weeks.
